Make Peace with Yourself

When her smile slowly drips
Down the front of your shirt
And the curls of her hair
Make one last whisper against your cheek
Try and see the watery glow
Inside your chest
Instead of that great abyss
And make peace with yourself

The icy daggers in your bleeding eyes
The red rivers along your arms
The soft tissue under your nails
And the ups and downs on your aching head
Avoid the void
Sidestep the filling love buffet
And complete your own tapestry
Make peace with yourself

The angry passion that rips the scream
Right out of your throat
And your face becomes twisted
In a frozen mask of agony
Thaw it slowly with the sand
Of a thousand hourglasses
Till the sigh is heaved
The dagger is sheathed
A calm breath is breathed
And you’ve made peace with yourself

I open the window, I walk into a little puddle of water, I close my eyes, I complete my own tapestry, I make peace with myself. : )
